The Morning Meltdown Isn’t Your Fault

I help stay-at-home moms overcome their fear about getting back into the workforce.

Because going back to work is so much more than just finding a job.

Hey Reader

You may know from listening to the podcast that I stayed home with my kids for 8 years before I went back to work and let me tell you, those first few months were really hard. In fact, I can tell you that in the beginning it was kind of a shit show.

I’m not trying to scare you about getting that job, but I do want to validate the difficult transition that it can be. There is a misconception out there that when moms go back to work it's no big deal. Afterall, everyone will adjust - right?

Yes. And. It’s f***ing hard!

But I know that you are up for the challenge of getting through hard things and I am right here with you.

I want to let you know that this week on Back to Work, we’re talking about adjusting your daily routine when you go back to work.

People love to say “you’ll figure it out,” and this is true. But let's not forget that figuring it out feels hard while you’re in it.

Afterall, you’re not just adjusting a schedule. You’re reshaping an entire family ecosystem.

That’s not small. That’s huge.

I want to help you get through it so here are 3 things that helped me and I know will help you through that messy middle:

1. Give yourself grace for the chaos. You’re not doing it wrong; you’re doing something new. Expect trial and error. Some mornings will be smooth, and some will feel like a circus. It doesn’t mean you’ve failed; it means you’re learning what works for your family.

2. Build in a few minutes of calm. Five minutes of quiet before the day starts can reset your nervous system. Whether it’s sipping coffee alone in the dark or sitting in your car before walking into work. Claim that space for yourself.

3. Be flexible with “how it’s supposed to look.” Maybe dinner isn’t at 6 anymore. Maybe “family time” happens in ten-minute bursts between activities. There’s no rulebook. Drop the guilt and design routines that fit your life right now.

Transitions are hard, but they don’t mean something’s wrong. They mean you’re growing into a new rhythm and that takes time.

You’re not just surviving a routine change; you’re leading your whole family through one.

In your corner, always,

Carrie
